Comparison of organic matter determination methods in soil by loss on ignition and potassium dichromate method

چکیده

Soil organic carbon (SOC) is an important property in regard to soil and environmental quality. There are many methods determine SOC. In this study, Walkley Black Loss on Ignition were chosen sixty sub-samples representing collected from three different parts of Arsi zone areas Ethiopia, then nine a composite samples used for SOC determination methods. The variables equipment, accuracy, efficiency, complexity, cost effect. Walkley–Black loss ignition (LOI) determined whole soils mesh size 2 mm. From the two selected was accurate simple method determining that do not involve use chemicals damage environment required. Walkley-Black wet oxidation procedure which relatively popular matter but it time-consuming, costly also has high potential cause pollution because disposal chromium strong acids. Therefore, loss-on-ignition cheap SOM estimation, avoids chromic acid wastes, deserves more attention. aims research study statistical relationships between with LOI WB compare spatial variability area. One way ANOVA significance test there significant difference values by methods, at confidence level 95%.
